Rules Before Rates

At Blue Moon Fitness we focus is creating an environment that is comfortable for the average person.  If you understand that, it’s time we explain our rules of etiquette.   If you visit our club we will do this before we discuss our rates because if you will not agree to follow the rules of etiquette our rates don’t matter.

Behavior we encourage… smiling, remembering that almost everyone felt uncomfortable the first time they walked into a gym, being approachable no matter how bad your day was, carrying a towel during your workout, wiping down equipment after use, sharing equipment with others, racking weights after use, being respectful to the equipment, facilities, and people, not disturbing others with rude workout habits, limiting cardio to 30 minutes if others are waiting, not talking on a cell phone on the exercise floor, wearing appropriate attire, carrying a water bottle to stay hydrated, saying “please” and “thank you”, acting civilized towards members of the opposite sex, keeping your personal music volume low enough that it doesn’t damage your hearing, covering up at all times other than when showering, encouraging strangers to keep trying because everyone who exercises is a winner.

Behavior we discourage… scowling, being unfriendly or unapproachable, taking pleasure in picking on someone else, not carrying a towel, not wiping your sweat off anything that it has dripped on, not racking weights after use, hogging equipment, slamming or dropping weights, grunting or screaming while lifting, dead lifting, wearing cut off or cut up shirts, showing so much skin that others are uncomfortable, spending more than 30 minutes on a piece of cardio when others are waiting, talking on your cell phone & disturbing others, wearing tank tops that are too small, offensive logos or messages on clothing, carrying a gallon jug of anything, swearing or other rude language, not toweling up on your way to and from the shower, acting as if you have never seen someone of the opposite sex before, assuming anyone comes to the gym to get “hit on”, playing your iPod so loud others have to listen to your music, making fun of people who don’t look like you.

Some of the rules spelled out more clearly …

  • No jeans while exercising
  • No sandals or open toed shoes
  • Foul language won’t be tolerated
  • Don’t bring valuables to the gym
  • No work boots
  • No grunting or groaning
  • No dropping weights
  • Everyone must sign in
  • Chewing tobacco is not allowed
  • Sweating in a gym is encouraged; stinking in a gym is a sign of poor hygiene
  • Handicapped parking stalls are reserved for handicapped people.  Cars parked without permits in handicapped spaces will be ticketed or towed without notice.
  • Outside equipment cannot be brought into the facility
  • Purses and bags are not allowed on the exercise floor
  • Bring a lock to lock up your locker
  • Coats are not allowed on the exercise floor
  • Gallon jugs are not allowed on the exercise floor
  • Weight plates must be replaced after use
  • Dumbbells must be replaced after use
  • Equipment must be wiped off after use
  • Equipment should never be leaned against the walls

This list is suggestive and not meant to be comprehensive.  The bottom line is that if we observe behavior that we deem to be rude or obnoxious we will put a stop to it.  We will be especially intolerant of bullying or intimidation.  We want people to come to our facilities with the expectation that they won’t be ridiculed or berated because of their shape, size, age, sex, race or anything else that may make them feel slightly different from others.  Two- thirds of Americans are obese or overweight and the only way we will change that is by providing facilities where those who need to exercise know they will feel welcome.  Blue Moon Fitness and the Fit Happens program will help us accomplish that.
